Balboa Thrift and Loan, Chula Vista, CA

The worker I spoke to did not know what she was doing. DMV told me Balboa would need to send me a lien release form for me to receive my car title. The Balboa worker I spoke to told me that DMV was incorrect and did not know what they were doing. Turns out DMV was right. The second worker I spoke to at Balboa finally admitted that they, indeed, needed to send me a lien release form after I called them while at the DMV.

Had an issue with a claim that they immediately and effectively fixed and went above and beyond. Enjoyed 2 staff especially that were very understanding and personable, Sandy and Grace.

This company is a joke. I have to drive and drop off my truck payment in person and watch them process it, because of prior mishandling of my payment. I got a call today that my payment wasn’t received. This isn’t the first time. It’s the third. I’ve had them call and tell me that they found my check weeks to months after mailing them. It’s not a huge inconvenience dropping it off, but it’s definitely not what I want to be doing with my time, and definitely doesn’t put them high on a professional pedestal. If you have other options don’t go here. If they’re your only option get used to babysitting them. Good luck.

I got my Loan through Balboa Thrift and Loan, nothing bad to say everyone I dealt with was very courteous and nice, I set my payment on automatic payments never had an issue, paid off my Loan, within 2 weeks received my Title, now looking for a new vehicle and hoping to work with this lending company again.

They don’t let u refinance when ur score goes from 640 to 799. They are incompetent they said I owe 532$ to pay everything off. I sent in a payment 3 weeks ago and they received it 2 days later since it went through my Wells Fargo bill pay. so they didn’t close out my loan it accumulated $1 they told me 2 weeks ago they would just write it off I called last week because they didn’t and I requested a receipt they said they would email they verified my email never sent it so now I’m still waiting 4/20/2021 so I have to call again for the same thing. INCOMPETENT UNTRUSTWORTHY. Go through a real financial company, this was my first car and loan the dealership set me up with them. Do your research before you agree to this. And set my APR to 19% never let me refinance so I paid well over 5k$ for a freaking Camry.

101 pt (DROP IN CREDIT) 01/2023 Had an issue with a claim and credit score drop previously, was fixed eventually although two employees went above and beyond. 2 staff that were very understanding and personable, Sandy and Grace. Both awesome professionals. Gave Balboa a 5 star recently but, they're showing their colors again. 02/2023. **** I had Balboa call today, one attempt to reach me and instantly and automatically a (101 pt DECREASE IN MY CREDIT) ONE CALL ATTEMPT. CALLED AT NOON, CREDIT SCORE DROPPED BY 2PM. Not even a follow up call....in the afternoon when people are busy working. Talk about vindictive. I should've kept the previous review and just edited it. But if you want to go with a vindictive no holds barred company, or a company that has their male employees do their best to intimidate you then instantly, seemingly, vindictively do their best to ruin you and destroy your credit, this is the company to go with.**** CANNOT WAIT UNTIL I HAVE NO TIES WITH THIS COMPANY and in retrospect wish I never found them. NEVER AGAIN, AND HOPEFULLY WITH NO ONE THAT ASSOCIATES WITH THEM EITHER, IN THE FUTURE.*

Balboa thrift and loan is way behind with the times. Every payment you make over the phone costs you $9.00. I live far and can't go in person to make my payment. So ridiculous! I don't trust mailing in a check either.

Unacceptable!!! They cashed our loan checks, credited it to someone elses account, made derogatory remarks on credit and never returned phone calls or emails with all the backup requesting them to fix the error!!!
