SIU Credit Union, Carbondale, IL

I have been a member of this credit union for over 8 years and I question why every single day. I lived in Southern Illinois when I opened this account, but relocated back St. Louis several years ago. I have been trying to remain with them and utilize shared branches but they make it hard. Ridiculous issues like not depositing direct deposits kn time due to system issues. So many other concerns. I don't recommend this establishment. At all.

Even though I didn’t end up going through the Union to get a loan, the help and advice I had here was very useful. The staff was very patient with me and helped me find the information that I needed.

Any time that I have to use siu cu I cringe. I look around for Ashton Kutcher to see if I'm being punked. I bring a deposit slip and cash for a checking deposit. This turns into the teller telling me she can't give me information on the loan. She asks for my license for a checking account cash deposit (fine no problem) then she proceeds to mention my loan again. I have no loan with this company. In fact I only use siu cu for shared banking so both my husband and I can still use our Florida credit unions because this one is so terrible about making mistakes 98% of the time (once in 2 years they didn't make a mistake) that I cringe anytime I have to use them. Maybe me being a retired banker having worked for JPMorgan Chase and Citigroup showed me how great bankers/banking should be. Edit to add response to SIU. You only prove my point. You responded about something I said was not an issue and skirted around what I mentioned to be the issue (constant mistakes being made by employees for the most simple of transactions). No need for you to respond since no one has bothered to care in 2 years when I always inquire what incan do differently to prevent it from happening again I get "um, nothing it should be a pretty easy transaction" yet........accuracy once just once in 2 years is not a good statistic.

I am so very fed up with them and dealing with the incompetent staff. I have my name connected to a business account and my personal account. I have had issues with money being withdrawn from my personal account when it should have been the business account. They supposedly put notes on these accounts to watch carefully when posting transactions. The last fiasco was when my personal real estate taxes were withdrawn from the business account in error. I talked to the branch manager whom seemed like she could care less. I called back later for more information, so left my name and number on the queue, no one ever returned my call. I will be canceling all accounts with this bank.

The app is currently down for me. No messages from SIU CU about an issue. Uninstalled and reinstalled app (up to date Android 13 browser). Took about 3 hours to get assistance from customer service to reset my password for online banking. I have been banking here since I was a student 7 years ago. Students, this is not a very practical option for banking if you intend to move away after graduating since the digital tools from this bank are unreliable. I regularly transfer funds out of this bank for higher interest on savings elsewhere. I opened an account at another credit union while waiting on customer service.

I have been a SIU Credit Union member for over 20 years. In my opinion their service has declined over the years. It use to be what its branding statement says, "For People, Not For Profit", but now I feel it is no different from any other big commercial bank -except with poorer service. As soon as I pay off my credit card with this bank, I am going to close my accounts!!!

Love dealing with the Carbondale location on the East Side! I am currently dealing with Haley on a loan and she is making this process as easy as it can be. She’s very quick to respond. I would definitely recommend getting a loan through SIU Credit Union. Not only do you get good service but you get a discount if you have a checking or credit card! Thank you SIU Credit Union.
