VSECU, Burlington, VT

I can't wait to close my account on here. Their website says one thing but they have always done something different to my accounts. When I tried to talk about it to an employee they didn't let me talk. They talked over me every time I tried to explain what was happening - that has happened to me more than once in different branches. They either need to update their website or be more clear.

Best Bank Ever. Helpful, fast and friendly. Get your money out of the big banks (you know, the ones that helped crash the economy in 2008). Credit Unions are the way to go to keep your money local and accountable.

I like that VSECU is a local bank but they need instant Debit card reporting to the app. Things that I spend on Thursday usually don't show up on my account balance until Monday. This is frustrating!

Nice local Credit Union. Low fee's and they have always been super responsive. Highly recommend!

I wanted to write this review because of the experience I had while trying to find my doctor’s office located next door in the Burlington, VT location. I just recently moved to VT from another state three months ago and I don’t live in the Burlington area. According to the notes I received from my doctor, I needed to type in a number on a keypad to get entry into the room. I saw a door with a keypad and tried to punch the number in when a blonde woman with curly hair came out. I tried to ask her if that door was the area I needed to check in with my doctor because I was confused and the appointment before mine ran a bit late. This woman yelled at me, very rudely, that the doctor’s office was next door. Then rolled her eyes at me and walked off. I hope that she can specifically read this to know that she needs to be much kinder to people who are waking through this oddly shaped common area. The doctors next door provide mental health services and there are people who would have been much more offended and upset if they had a similar reaction with her. Please offer a little more grace if you can if someone gets confused because they are not from the area. I will definitely be crossing this credit union off the list of possible options to use as well if this is the kind of “customer service” management or other representative provide.

Credit union, so I know their loyalties are to their account holders. Local, so I know the money they hold will stay within the region. They've been nothing but helpful any time I've needed anything. Checks all my boxes for a local bank, and their online account management is better than I would expect. Edit: re: online portal: *significantly better than I would expect. Everything just works, and either they're adding features without messing up the UI or I'm just still discovering them. Further? When I was recently traveling in Europe my "international" bank Schwab, despite being informed of my plans, started spontaneously rejecting my purchases without notice bc seemed fraudulent. Took me a couple hours of repeatedly finding out the hard way I didn't have a train ticket before I realized what was going on. My VSECU plastic (I had also notified them, of course) worked flawlessly. Certainly saved me a night of sleeping on the streets in Amsterdam. I'm moving out of the region soon, and I'm sure this credit union is one of the things I'll miss most.

It's a bit heart-breaking to write this, because I love the idea of a credit union and the people I spoke with at VSECU were nice. But, wow, this is the worst business experience I have had in many, many years. The process of applying for a loan is so complex and arbitrary. Each person I spoke with gave me different rules and instructions. After several days of sending reams of financial data, I finally gave up and went with a commercial bank who gave me a loan at a much better rate and it took about 2 minutes. I had a lot of savings in VSECU and am pulling everything out.
