I've been a customer with this location probably close to a dozen times now, and they've usually been able to help me out. 1 or 2 times they could not, which I was in the process of rebuilding my credit so I can fault them at that. Kayla - mentioned in the other review - isn't at the BD store any more, but she was my go to person and was always nice and professional with me, and so are the new manager and staff there as well. I'd recommend it since no bad experiences here, but remember - It's a PAYDAY LOAN STORE - so the rates are HIGH and it's gonna cost ya for sure - but at least they don't take your first born, so hopefully you still want them ! ;-)

I would give this store negative stars if that was possible. I had the misfortune to have to interact with the staff from the Beaver Dam Check into Cash store (1626 N Spring St Suite 2, Beaver Dam, WI 53916) yesterday. Their so-called corporate policy seems illegal to me. They refused to cash a check for $60 that I had issued to a study participant. Kayla (the manager there) claimed their “Fraud Detection” software found the check fraudulent and she confiscated the check. My participant called me from there to let me know. I work for the Center for Tobacco Research and Intervention (CTRI) at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health and I know that the check I issued was indeed NOT fraudulent. I called the Check into Cash to let them know that but Kayla refused to believe me. She said their software is never wrong and the check even looks fake. I assured her we print them at our office on water-marked paper and it is indeed a legitimate check. She scoffed at me, was extremely rude, and refused to talk to me any further except to say that I could call her District Manager. I 3-way called the participant and the district manager (Julie) and the same time. She was equally rude and condescending. She cut me off whenever I tried to speak and demanded to know from the participant what the check was for. The participant said it was for quitting smoking and Julie laughed at her cruelly and said no one would ever get paid to quit smoking. (Participants actually get paid for their time and the data they provide, regardless of if they quit smoking or not, but that’s beside the point). When they asked me where I was calling from I told them several times that I was calling from my research office on campus in Madison but they accused me of calling from the parking lot of their building. She yelled over the phone, “Really? Madison, huh? WELL MY MANAGER CAN SEE YOU IN THE PARKING LOT! AND WE’RE CALLING THE POLICE ON YOU RIGHT NOW!” Apparently there was another person with the participant waiting in the parking lot talking on a phone so they thought it was me. They were incredibly disrespectful and rude and treated both of us like a criminals. (The whole experience was surreal!) I requested they at least return the check to my participant so that she can cash it at real bank (US Bank, where it was issued from). They refused and said it was their corporate policy to keep checks that their software marks “Fraudulent.” Their corporate policy sounds like theft to me because it was a legitimate check that were going to keep and my participant would have just lost that money. How is that legal? They said that they would only give the check back after they contacted the police and reported us both for fraud and that once they declare a check is Fraudulent they mark the check so that it will not be able to be cashed anywhere. I spoke to the Manager (Kayla) and the District Manager (Julie) and they were both in full agreement in all of this. They did eventually return the check to my participant without calling the police (it was a $60 check so perhaps it wasn’t worth it to them?) and she was able to cash it at the US Bank without any issues. They must have done a google search of CTRI a few minutes later because they called the main phone number to confirm that I work here. They secretary confirmed that I had been in my office here the entire time and that the UW-Madison does not issue fraudulent checks. I never personally received an apology. I have never been treated so disrespectfully in my life. I contacted the local police department, the Better Business Bureau, and the local newspaper to report this. Clearly their software is inaccurate as was the case with the check I issued. Yet they were planning to confiscate the check which to me is the equivalent of stealing from their customer. Hopefully their “corporate policy” of stealing from customers gets them shut down.

When I’m short on cash, I’m grateful for the amazing team here! The moment I walk in they are warm, kind, respectful, professional, and efficient. Plus, they are great communicators and balance in a sense of humor. That is appreciated because it takes away the heaviness of asking for money and keeps it light. I never dread going, I know it will always be a positive experience! Many thank you’s to the team!
