AmeriCU Credit Union, Rome, NY

AmeriCu is the worst credit union. I applied for a simple auto loan, waited many days but was never contacted by the loan representative, eventually I had to pay cash for the vehicle because the dealership would not hold any longer. Even after all this time, the loan representative never quoted me a rate or a payment, yet demanded I update insurance before even closing the loan. In general, my loan representative was incompetent and lacked basic customer service abilities. Avoid these guys, a waste of time.

Best bank I've ever banked with. It's because of them giving me a chance with a car loan 5 years ago my credit went from 300s to 725.... The staff at both rome locations and Yorkville/new hartford location are amazing. They go above and beyond for their customers... I will never bank anywhere else.

They sold an auto loan portfolio to BB&T. The letter to their outgoing clients stated that BB&T would accept credit cards as a form of payment on auto loans. Nice perk except it wasn’t true. I had a BB&T rep literally laughing at me over the phone about it even after I provided the letter. BB&T told me to take a hike. Talked with AmeriCu and they said it was part of the agreement with BB&T. One of these financial institutions is lying. Guess who loses?

I initially loved Americu. My mom, who is elderly and has all her accounts there, got treated like a vagrant when she tried to shut access down for my father. By the way, my father has been deceased for five years!!!!! She has tried multiple times to get this simple transaction taken care of. Americu has grown to the point where they forgot their roots... This just in, you are not the only show in town. I used to think they were a better alternative to banks. NOT SO MUCH!!!!

Holds every check I deposit and mobile deposit is held for about a week. This bank should be a no go.

I'm very disappointed in the service I have received from the Rome branch. Several times I have used the drive thru just to sit and wait 20min for someone to acknowledge me. I wasted an entire lunch hour waiting in line. I was the only person waiting. Then I had to get a cashiers check for a down payment on my house and I was instructed to use a kiosk or I'll be charged $5. Today I went in for another cashiers check for a purchase tomorrow except they removed the cashier check feature completely screwing up all my plans. Now I'm an able to take out the required amount and can't make this purchase. Why do you force your customers to use this function just to remove it 2 months later?? It just doesn't make any sense. Thank you Americu for making life inconvenient. Update: since posting this review I went inside to withdraw money to buy a vehicle and was shorted $2k. Not $200 but $2,000 and they never bothered to notify me. I had to call to investigate why I was shorted. But a phone call would've been nice as this could've caused a huge issue with the seller. Oh and once again I waited at the drive thru for almost a half hour. There wasn't anyone in front of me when I pulled up. After about 15 min a rep came on to very rudely tell me she'll be right with me then she never came back. Another person finally came to help me after another 5 min of waiting. This is getting ridiculous.
