UVA Community Credit Union, Charlottesville, VA

I have been a member of this credit union for almost 3 years and they are just the worst. Their customer service is absolutely no help.

Their ATMS are awful. I’ve deposited both cash and my paychecks into their ATM and it never deposited correctly. Had to call the next day to get them to deposit my paycheck. They seemed like they were in absolutely no rush to make sure I get my money deposited. Super frustrating.

Beside email, txt and phone calls they regularly use, they were unable to contact me to update my address. Instead, they have been sneaking a $5 fee every month from a saving account that see no other traffic. I caught them in time or they would drain my inactive account into overdraft and charge another fee. UVACCU has nothing to do with COMMUNITY. Find a real bank that will have to earn your business.

Been a customer for 20+ years and I've never had such bad experience within the last 5 years.. unbelievable. Unexplained NSF fees and then they refund you without any reason. Miss a payment and do the payment automatically for you without permission and then mail you a letter. Take your money somewhere else...not here because they put their hands in your money way too much!!!

This is a complete joke of a credit union. You might be considering UVACCU because you've heard that credit unions are a kinder, more usable alternative for low-income individuals compared to the big banks. In this case, that is totally untrue. UVACCU debit cards cannot be linked to Apple Pay or Google Wallet. Mobile deposit, a technology that has been in place for decades, takes longer at UVACCU than at any other bank I have used. I have waited over a week for mobile deposit funds to be available, while their terms state two business days. Their fees are well above comparable "credit unions" and banks, and I have received no grace and no kindness in resolving unauthorized charges and resultant overdraft fees on my account. Any communication with their customer service staff is pointless unless you have a few dozen hours of free time to burn. The only way to resolve any issue you may have with this bank is to spend days to weeks repeatedly contacting them via phone, email, and their online messaging service (on the rare occasion you're able to access it). They are no quicker in responding to reports of unauthorized charges or lost debit cards. UVACCU's approval policies for credit cards and loans are more stringent and less flexible than those of other leading banks doing business in the area. and they are much quicker to assess fees than any bank I've ever dealt with. They will creatively resequence your deposits and debits in whatever way they need to in order to profit. I cannot stress enough that this is a disreputable, dishonest institution with which no one should do business. This institution does not care about its customers, and its chosen affiliation with the UVA brand should tell you all you need to know. The website is decades out of date and more often than not it is down for maintenance. UVACCU will make it impossible for you to access your account online, then charge you fees for not properly maintaining your account using its online interface. As someone who stupidly moved from Truist (another cartel disguised as a bank) to UVACCU, there is no reason to trust this institution with your money. This company makes bank off of clueless college students and impoverished locals who lack basic financial literacy. It is a predatory excuse for a financial institution. Their executives and those who work for them (including whoever is paid a meager hourly wage to respond to this review) should be ashamed of themselves.

If you're looking for a loan, UVA Community Credit Union is a great choice. They have great rates on automotive loans and their credit cards feature some of the lowest interest rates. For basic banking (checking and savings), however, I would choose another bank. This is because UVACCU's online platform and apps are outdated and not as user-friendly as other's that I've used. This may cost you in the long run with fees or interest charges.

Scam of a bank. They'll take your money with no explanation. Can't use your debit card with Google or Apple. Years behind the technology curve and will use that to their advantage to charge you fees.
