Convenient location with early and late hours. Outstandingly good rates and free checking. The staff is always friendly, fast, and professional. The only problem is that after hours you are totally on your own. No way to get any kind of customer service on evenings weekends and holidays to help with checking or savings or credit card problems.

Over the past 4- 5 months I have had some complex financial issues which required in-person assistance numerous times at this branch. I cannot say enough about the patient, can-do attitude and help I received from EVERYONE here. To be specific: Bianca Garcia, Branch Manager; Hector, Kenya, and Emanuel behind the counter. My thanks to all! I will continue to recommend Self-Help and this branch at every opportunity.

Small bank with friendly people! We have had only good experiences with this branch and the one in Durham. I never use ATMs anymore except in situations where I don't plan ahead, so it doesn't bother me that you have to search for an ATM without a fee. Unlike at a big bank, I won't be scared next year when I go in to talk to them about getting a loan to build a house. They seem like people who care, not big business folks who are out to take advantage of you. I like that their overdraft fee doesn't go up and up, like it did at my old bank. Their other fees are either absent or very affordable.

Teller misspelled my address and this branch has continued to give me the run-around and it has been TWO WEEKS since I opened my account and I was informed that my card will be there in two days despite being assured that an expedited order for a debit card had been submitted after I didn't recieve my debit card the first time. I will be closing my account as soon as it is convenient .

Very pleasant experience, got an account opened super fast, everyone is friendly and efficient, there’s also very good interest rates on checking and savings accounts.

This is the WORST bank ever! They freeze my debit card every other week for suspected fraudulent activity on purchases I make regularly at Walmart biweekly when I get paid. This always happens on the weekend when there is absolutely NO WAY to get the freeze lifted because they don’t have an after hours customer service line! It has put me in a bind many times when I was almost out of gas, out of town checking into a hotel, or when I was down and out recovering from surgery and couldn’t order instacart & had no way of going to get things myself! The last straw was this past Thursday night I went to deposit cash in the atm so I could make my rent payment and the atm wasn’t working. So I go back to the bank on Friday morning and they are closed!!! I called the other branch on French Broad street and they said they didn’t have power so that’s why they were closed…what?!?!! I had to pay my rent right then before I went to work to avoid $80+ in late fees so I had to go to another store to add the money to my cashapp card and transfer it to my bank to make the payment. They have caused me a lot of unnecessary trouble and I’m over it at this point! I’ve never had such horrible experiences with a bank in my life and I know I can’t be the only one. I can’t believe they are even still open at all. Seriously considering suing them at this point!
