Can you get a payday loan with Netspend?
Often, yes. Lenders need two things from your account: a place to send your loan and a way to collect repayment. A Netspend account that receives direct deposit has its own routing and account number, which is what an online lender asks for. If your paycheck or benefits already land on your Netspend card, that account can be the one you list on your request.
Netspend isn't a bank. Netspend says its banking services are provided by Pathward, National Association, and Republic Bank & Trust Company, Members FDIC; your issuing bank is shown on the back of your card and in your account agreement. Zebra Finance isn't affiliated with Netspend. We're a free matching service that shares your request with lenders in our network that serve your state. See if you qualify — it takes about 3 minutes.
Find your Netspend routing and account numbers
Lenders deposit through the ACH network, so they need your account's routing and account numbers, not the 16-digit number on the front of your card. According to Netspend, you can find both in the Netspend app or online account center under Move Money, then Direct Deposit.
- Copy the numbers exactly as the app shows them.
- Make sure the name on your Netspend account matches the name on your ID and on our form. Netspend says the name on a direct deposit must match the account name.
- Your account needs to be registered and identity-verified. Netspend notes FDIC insurance applies through the issuing bank once your identity is verified and the account is registered.
What lenders check on a Netspend account
Lenders mostly want to see that your income arrives regularly and that the account is active. When you link the account or upload statements, a lender typically looks at:
- Recurring deposits from an employer, gig platform or benefits agency.
- How long the account has been receiving deposits. A few months of history helps.
- Balance pattern between paydays.
- Whether the account can receive ACH deposits and allow scheduled payments. Some lenders' systems handle prepaid accounts differently from checking accounts.
Many lenders in our network consider all credit types and focus on income. Some may use alternative credit data instead of a traditional hard pull.
Why a lender might pass on a prepaid account
Acceptance is each lender's call. Common reasons one lender says no while another says yes:
- Policy on prepaid accounts: some lenders only fund traditional checking accounts.
- Verification: if a lender's system can't connect to the account, a downloaded statement may fill the gap.
- No direct deposit yet: a card you reload with cash, without paycheck or benefit deposits, gives a lender little income history to review.
That's why one form that reaches several lenders is useful: you aren't relying on a single lender's rules. If your Netspend account isn't accepted, a basic checking account opens the most doors; see loans with no bank account.
Netspend direct deposit and early pay
Netspend says direct deposit can make paychecks available up to 2 days early and federal government benefits, such as Social Security, up to 5 days early, depending on when your payer sends the payment. That's useful when you plan a loan due date: line it up with the day your money actually becomes available, not the official payday printed on your stub.
Most lenders collect repayment automatically from the same account on the due date, so keep enough on the card that morning. Receiving benefits? See loans for Social Security recipients.
What a payday loan costs
Payday lenders charge a flat fee per $100, set within your state's limit, commonly $10 to $30 per $100. At a sample $15 per $100:
- $200 loan: $30 fee, repay $230
- $300 loan: $45 fee, repay $345
- $500 loan: $75 fee, repay $575
Your lender shows the exact APR and terms before you sign. Try other amounts with the payday loan calculator. Need more time to repay? An installment loan spreads the cost across several payments.
How to apply with your Netspend account
Have your Netspend routing and account numbers, a government photo ID, and proof of income ready. Then:
- Fill out the form. Enter the amount, your contact details, income and bank information. It takes about 3 minutes.
- Get matched. We send your request to lenders in our network that serve your state.
- Review your offer. If a lender approves you, you see the amount, APR, payment schedule and total to repay before you sign.
- Get your money. Accept, e-sign, and funds are often deposited the next business day.
Zebra Finance is a free loan-matching service, not a lender. Whether you get an offer, and for how much, is up to the lender and your state's rules. You are never obligated to accept.

Frequently asked questions
Do any payday lenders accept Netspend?
Yes, some do. Lenders that accept prepaid accounts look for a Netspend account registered in your name, with routing and account numbers and regular direct deposits. Acceptance varies by lender, so a form that reaches multiple lenders in our network gives you more chances to be matched. It's free and takes about 3 minutes.
Where do I find my Netspend routing number?
In the Netspend app or online account center, go to Move Money, then Direct Deposit. Netspend lists your routing and account numbers there. Use those numbers on a loan request, not the card number printed on the front of your card, and copy them exactly as shown.
Can a loan be deposited to my Netspend card?
It can if the lender accepts prepaid accounts. The lender sends funds by ACH to your Netspend routing and account numbers, the same way your employer sends your paycheck. Approved funds through our network are often deposited the next business day, though weekend and holiday requests post on the following business day.
Why was my Netspend card declined for a loan?
Common reasons are a lender policy that only funds checking accounts, an account that isn't fully registered or verified, a name mismatch, or no recurring direct deposits yet. Uploading a statement or applying again after a few more deposits can help. Our form reaches several lenders, not just one.
Do I need a credit check to use Netspend for a loan?
Netspend itself doesn't run a credit check to open a prepaid card, according to its site. Loan lenders set their own rules. Many lenders in our network consider all credit types and focus on your income; some may use alternative credit data instead of a traditional hard pull.
Is Netspend a bank?
No. Netspend says it isn't a bank. Its banking services are provided by Pathward, N.A. and Republic Bank & Trust Company, Members FDIC, and your issuing bank is listed on the back of your card. Funds can be FDIC insured through the issuing bank once your account is registered and verified.
