Yes, you can use a Varo account for a loan
Varo is different from most banking apps: it's a bank itself. Varo's site identifies it as Varo Bank, N.A., Member FDIC, with its own national bank charter. For a lender, that means your Varo account works like a checking account at any other bank. It has a routing number and account number, it can receive ACH deposits, and it can be set up for scheduled payments.
Zebra Finance isn't affiliated with Varo. We're a free loan-matching service: you enter your Varo account details on our form, and we share your request with lenders in our network that serve your state. Each lender decides whether to make an offer. See if you qualify — it takes about 3 minutes.
How lenders deposit to Varo
Online lenders send your loan by ACH transfer to the routing and account number you provide. Here's what to expect:
- Find your numbers in the Varo app. Use your account's routing and account numbers, not your debit card number.
- Timing: after you e-sign, funds are often deposited the next business day. ACH deposits don't post on weekends or federal holidays, so a Friday-night approval usually lands on Monday. See payday loans on the weekend.
- Repayment: most lenders collect automatically from the same account on your due date.
Varo says it makes direct deposits available up to 2 days before your scheduled pay date, on the day it receives the funds. If you get paid early, set your due date around when your money actually shows up.
What lenders look at in your Varo account
- Income deposits: the source, the amount and how regularly they arrive.
- Account history: a few months of deposits gives the lender more to go on.
- Balance pattern: whether your balance stays positive between paydays.
- Payment history: whether past automatic payments went through.
If you recently switched your paycheck to Varo, your old bank's statements can help show a longer income history. Many lenders in our network consider all credit types and focus on income, and some may use alternative credit data instead of a traditional hard pull.
Varo Advance: what Varo offers
Varo has its own small-dollar product. According to Varo's website (checked October 28, 2026):
- What it is: Varo Advance is a small-dollar line of credit deposited to your Varo Bank account.
- Amounts: initial limits range from $20 to $250, and Varo says advances can grow to $500 over time.
- Fees: a flat fee from $1.60 to $100, based on the amount. Current limits and fees are shown in the Varo app.
- Repayment: 30 days to repay.
- Qualifying: qualifications apply and approval depends on consumer reports and Varo account activity. Varo says qualifying direct deposits include paychecks, pension payments and government benefits, but not tax refunds, stimulus payments or person-to-person transfers.
Terms can change, so check varomoney.com for current details. If you need more than your Advance limit, or Advance isn't available to you, a loan through our network can cover $100 to $5,000.
Why a lender might not accept an account
Most lenders treat Varo like any checking account, but an application can still stall:
- Verification: if a lender's system can't read the account, uploading a statement often solves it.
- New account: a just-opened account may not show enough deposit history yet.
- Name mismatch: the name on your Varo account, ID and form should match.
Because our form reaches multiple lenders, one lender's rules don't decide everything. Keeping a recent PDF statement on your phone makes it easy to upload one if asked.
What a payday loan costs
Payday lenders charge a flat fee per $100, set within your state's limit, commonly $10 to $30 per $100. At a sample $15 per $100:
- $200 loan: $30 fee, repay $230
- $300 loan: $45 fee, repay $345
- $500 loan: $75 fee, repay $575
Your lender shows the exact APR and terms before you sign. Try other amounts with the payday loan calculator. Need more time to repay? An installment loan spreads the cost across several payments.

Is Varo a real bank?
Yes. Varo's website identifies it as Varo Bank, N.A., Member FDIC, an independent bank with its own charter. Deposits are FDIC insured up to $250,000. That's different from many banking apps, which are technology companies that partner with a separate bank.

You'll need your Varo routing and account numbers from the app, a government-issued photo ID, proof of regular income, and a phone number and email. Keep two or three recent statements handy in case a lender wants to confirm your deposits. You must be at least 18 and live in a state the lender serves.
Can I get a loan with Varo and bad credit?
