Yes, you can use Current for a loan
If Current is where your paycheck lands, it can be the account you use for a loan. Lenders need a routing and account number to send your money and to collect repayment, and a Current account has both. You'll find them in the Current app after you sign up.
Current describes itself as a financial technology company, not an FDIC-insured bank. Its site says banking services are provided by Choice Financial Group, Member FDIC, and/or Cross River Bank, Member FDIC. For lending purposes, what matters is that the account accepts ACH deposits and receives your income.
Zebra Finance isn't affiliated with Current. We're a free matching service that shares your request with lenders in our network that serve your state. See if you qualify — it takes about 3 minutes.
How to apply with your Current account
- Get your routing and account numbers from the Current app. Use these, not your debit card number.
- Make sure your income is deposited to Current. Lenders look for repeating deposits from an employer, gig platform or benefits agency.
- Download two or three recent statements in case a lender asks for them.
- Fill out our form with the amount you need. It takes about 3 minutes.
- Review your offer, including the due date and how repayment is collected.
If a lender asks to link your account, use the lender's secure connection. Never share your Current password or one-time codes; a legitimate lender doesn't need them.
What lenders look at
- Income deposits: source, amount and regularity.
- Account age: a few months of history helps.
- Balance pattern: how your balance moves between paydays.
- Payment history: whether earlier automatic payments went through.
Current says direct deposits are released as soon as your employer sends them, which can make pay available up to 2 days early, depending on when your payer submits it. Plan your loan's due date around the day your money actually arrives. Many lenders in our network consider all credit types and focus on income; some may use alternative credit data instead of a traditional hard pull.
Why a lender might not accept an account
- Lender policy: some lenders set their own rules about app-based accounts.
- Verification: if a lender can't connect to the account, an uploaded statement may work instead.
- New account: an account opened very recently may not show enough deposit history.
Since our form reaches several lenders, you're not depending on one lender's policy. If you recently moved your direct deposit, statements from your previous bank can help show a longer income record.
Current's own features
Current offers features for eligible customers, described on its website (checked October 28, 2026):
- Paycheck Advance: up to $1,000 for eligible customers after adding your paycheck. Current says it's offered by Finco Advance LLC, a financial technology company, not a bank, and the available amount is shown in the app and can change.
- Fee-free overdraft: requires at least $200 in eligible direct deposits over the preceding 35 days, plus other requirements, and negative balances must be repaid within 60 days.
Terms can change, so check current.com for details. If you need more than those features provide, or don't qualify for them, a loan through our network can cover $100 to $5,000.
Tips for repaying from Current
- Know your due date. Most lenders collect automatically on the due date, so make sure the money is in your Current account that morning.
- Match it to your pay schedule. If your employer sends pay early, plan around the day funds actually arrive.
- Talk to your lender early if something changes, before the due date. Many lenders can discuss options when you reach out first.
- Need longer to repay? An installment loan spreads repayment over several scheduled payments.
What a payday loan costs
Payday lenders charge a flat fee per $100, set within your state's limit, commonly $10 to $30 per $100. At a sample $15 per $100:
- $200 loan: $30 fee, repay $230
- $300 loan: $45 fee, repay $345
- $500 loan: $75 fee, repay $575
Your lender shows the exact APR and terms before you sign. Try other amounts with the payday loan calculator. Need more time to repay? An installment loan spreads the cost across several payments.

Frequently asked questions
Do payday lenders accept Current?
Many do. A Current account has its own routing and account numbers and can receive direct deposits, which is what lenders need to fund a loan and collect payments. Acceptance is up to each lender, so our free form, which reaches multiple lenders in our network, gives you more chances to be matched.
Is Current a real bank?
No. Current says it is a financial technology company, not an FDIC-insured bank. Banking services are provided by Choice Financial Group and/or Cross River Bank, both Members FDIC. For a loan, a Current account works like a checking account with routing and account numbers.
Where do I find my Current routing and account number?
Your routing and account numbers are shown in the Current app once your account is open. Copy them exactly as they appear and use them on a loan request instead of your debit card number. The name on the account should match your ID and the name on our form.
How much is Current's Paycheck Advance?
Current advertises Paycheck Advance up to $1,000 for eligible customers who add their paycheck. It's offered by Finco Advance LLC, and the amount you see in the app can change. If you need more, or aren't eligible, lenders in our network offer $100 to $5,000 depending on your state.
How fast can I get a loan deposited to Current?
Our form takes about 3 minutes, many lenders decide within minutes, and approved funds are often deposited the next business day. ACH deposits don't post on weekends or federal holidays, so applying early on a weekday gets your money fastest.
Why was my Current account rejected by a lender?
Common reasons include a lender policy on app-based accounts, a system that couldn't verify the account, a name mismatch, or a new account without much deposit history. Uploading statements or applying after a few more paychecks can help. Our form reaches several lenders rather than just one.
