What American Web Loan is

People search for "AWL web loan" or "AWL loans" when they've seen an ad or received a mailer from American Web Loan. Here's what the company says about itself on its official website, checked October 25, 2026.

American Web Loan describes itself as an internet lending company owned and operated by the Otoe-Missouria Tribe of Indians, a federally recognized tribe. Its site says AWL II, Inc. dba American Web Loan is an economic arm and enterprise wholly owned by the Tribe, and that revenue funds tribal community programs such as elder services, education and housing. It lists an office in Red Rock, Oklahoma.

AWL says it is a direct lender: when you take a loan, you borrow directly from it. It also says it offers English- and Spanish-speaking agents.

Zebra Finance isn't affiliated with American Web Loan, and we don't publish star ratings. The facts below come from AWL's own site and help center.

AWL loan amounts, terms and costs

FeatureWhat AWL's official site says
ProductInstallment loans with fixed payment amounts and a fixed number of payments
Amounts$300 to $2,500 (application form range; "up to $2,500")
TermsPayments spread over 6, 9 or 12 months
Is it a payday loan?AWL says no, because payments are spread out rather than due in full on your next payday
RatesSet per loan based on creditworthiness, AWL's own scoring, amount and term; the finance charge and APR are disclosed in the loan agreement
PrepaymentAdditional payments any time; AWL says it never charges a prepayment penalty
FundingSame-business-day funding may be available by wire or direct deposit with qualifying banks; no funding on weekends or federal holidays
Check fundingMailed checks take 7 to 10 days; AWL says interest starts 5 calendar days after the loan date regardless of delivery

AWL doesn't publish a fixed rate table, so the only way to see your exact cost is in the loan agreement it shows you. AWL's own site also carries a customer notice that its loans are meant for short-term needs, not as a long-term financial solution.

Who can apply to AWL

AWL's eligibility page lists these basic requirements:

  • 18 years old or older.
  • Not active-duty U.S. military or a dependent of active-duty military.
  • No current AWL loan in repayment, and no prior AWL loan in default or charged off.
  • Minimum income, direct deposited into an active checking account in good standing.
  • Not currently bankrupt, preparing for bankruptcy or in bankruptcy protection.
  • Living in a state where AWL extends credit.

On credit, AWL says you may be able to qualify with bad credit or no credit, subject to its underwriting. It also says applicants authorize identity verification, underwriting and credit reporting, which may involve consumer reporting agencies.

Which states AWL serves

AWL's help center says it is not accepting applications from Arkansas, Connecticut, Georgia, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont and Virginia. It adds that the states it accepts applications from may change without notice, and it gives a phone number (877-860-7171) to confirm.

If you live in one of those states, or AWL can't help, you can still see what lenders in our network offer in your state. Check your state's rules with the state law lookup.

Tribal lending: what it means for you

AWL's site says the loan agreement is governed by applicable federal law and the laws of the Otoe-Missouria Tribe, including the Tribe's Consumer Financial Services Ordinance and Tribal Contract Code. It says it is licensed and regulated by the Tribe's Consumer Finance Services Regulatory Commission, which it describes as the agency solely responsible for regulating AWL. By applying, you consent to the Tribe's jurisdiction, and the Terms of Use include an arbitration agreement.

In practice, that means your loan terms follow the agreement and tribal law rather than a state lending license. Read the agreement before signing, especially the APR, the payment schedule, the arbitration clause and how to cancel. Our guide to tribal loans explains how this kind of lending works.

Another way to request a loan

Some people prefer to compare more than one option before choosing. Zebra Finance is a free matching service, not a lender. One short form shares your request with lenders in our network that serve your state, with amounts from about $100 to $5,000 depending on your state, income and the lender.

Questions to ask before you sign any online loan

  1. What's the total of payments? Compare that number, not just the payment.
  2. Who is the lender and which law governs the agreement?
  3. Can I pay early without a penalty?
  4. How do I cancel if I change my mind?
  5. When is the first payment due, and does it line up with my payday?
