Direct Lender Payday and Installment Loans

Updated 2026-10-25 · By the Zebra Finance editorial team · How we research

A direct lender is the company that approves your loan, sends you the money and collects your payments. Zebra Finance is not a lender; we're a free matching service. You fill out one form, and lenders in our network fund your loan directly. One request takes about three minutes, and all credit types can apply.

  1. 1 Choose an amount and fill out the form
  2. 2 Get matched with a lender in our network
  3. 3 Review your offer and get funded, often next business day

Tip: apply on a weekday morning for the best chance of funding by the next business day.

No hard credit inquiry on our end; lenders may check your credit. Not a lender; approval, amount and terms come from the lender. Example: $1,000 over 12 months at 35.99% APR ≈ $100.46/month.

What a direct lender is

A direct lender makes the credit decision, funds the loan from its own money or its bank partner, and services it: it sends the deposit, sets up your payments and answers your questions. When you sign a loan agreement, the lender named on that agreement is your direct lender.

People search for direct lenders because they want a clear answer from the company that actually funds the loan, without middlemen adding fees. That's a smart instinct, and it's exactly how our network works.

How we fit in: a matching service, not a lender

Zebra Finance does not lend money, make credit decisions or set rates. We're a free loan-matching service. Here's what happens:

  1. You fill out one form with the amount you need, your income and your bank details. It takes about 3 minutes.
  2. We share it with lenders in our network that serve your state and loan type.
  3. A direct lender reviews it and, if it can help, shows you an offer with the amount, fees, APR and payment schedule.
  4. You sign with that lender. Lenders in our network fund your loan directly, usually by direct deposit, often the next business day.
  5. You repay the lender, not us.

We don't charge you for using the form, and you're never obligated to accept an offer. See how it works and about us.

Why use one form instead of applying lender by lender

  • Less time. Applying to several lenders one at a time means typing the same details again and again.
  • More reach. Each lender serves certain states, amounts and credit profiles. One request can reach lenders that fit yours.
  • Same direct relationship. If you accept, your loan is with the lender, just as if you'd gone to its site yourself.
  • All credit types considered. Many lenders in our network focus on income and banking history and may use alternative credit data instead of a traditional hard pull from the big three bureaus.

Loan types direct lenders in our network offer

TypeTypical amountHow you repay
Payday loan$100–$1,000, by stateOne payment on your next payday
Installment loan$300–$5,000Equal payments over several months
Personal loan$1,000–$5,000Fixed monthly payments
Title loanBased on your car's valueOne payment or installments, by state

What's available depends on your state's laws. In some states payday loans aren't offered, and our form connects you with installment lenders instead. See payday loan laws by state.

Direct lenders for bad credit

Many direct lenders that work with lower scores look mostly at what you can show today: steady income, a checking account with regular deposits, and a payment that fits your budget. A past late payment or collection doesn't automatically rule you out. Bad credit may affect the rate or amount offered, and approval is always the lender's decision. See loans for bad credit and bad credit installment loans.

How to tell who your lender is

Before you sign any loan, check these details on the agreement. Every legitimate lender shows them:

  • The lender's legal name and contact information.
  • The amount financed, finance charge in dollars, APR and total of payments, as federal Truth in Lending rules require.
  • Your payment dates and how payments are collected.
  • Whether the loan is made under state law or by a tribal lender. Tribal lenders follow different rules; see tribal loans.

In a few states, short-term loans may be arranged through a licensed credit services business working with a third-party lender. In Texas, for example, this is called a Credit Access Business. Your paperwork will name each company involved. A real lender never asks you to pay an upfront fee by gift card or wire before funding. More in payday loan scams.

What you need

  • Age 18 or older (19 in a few states) and a U.S. resident
  • A government photo ID
  • Regular income from a job, benefits or self-employment
  • An active checking account in your name
  • A phone number and email

Frequently asked questions

Is Zebra Finance a direct lender?

No. We're a free loan-matching service. We share your request with lenders in our network, and if one approves you, that lender funds your loan directly and you repay the lender. We don't make credit decisions, set rates or collect payments.

What is a direct lender payday loan?

It's a payday loan you get straight from the company that funds it. The lender approves you, deposits the money and collects one payment on your next payday. Lenders in our network that offer payday loans fund them directly where state law allows.

Are there direct lenders for bad credit?

Yes. Many direct lenders consider all credit types and focus on income and bank history, often using alternative credit data instead of a traditional hard pull. Bad credit can affect your rate or amount, and approval is up to the lender.

Do direct lenders approve faster than brokers?

Not necessarily. Speed depends on the lender's review and your bank. With our form, your request goes to lenders in our network right away, many decide within minutes, and approved loans are often funded the next business day.

Can I get an installment loan from a direct lender?

Yes. Many lenders in our network offer installment loans from a few hundred dollars up to $5,000, repaid in equal payments. The lender funds the loan directly and shows you the APR, payment and total before you sign.

Does using a matching service cost more?

Our form is free to use. Your loan terms come from the lender and are shown before you sign, so you can review the cost and decline if it isn't right for you.
