How Cash App Borrow works

Cash App Borrow is a small loan built into the Cash App. If Borrow is available to you, you pick an amount, review the terms on screen and the money lands in your Cash balance instantly. Cash App says Borrow loans are issued and serviced by Square Financial Services, Inc., and that Cash App itself is a financial services platform, not a bank.

Here's what Cash App states on its official Borrow page (checked October 25, 2026):

  • Amounts: as little as $20, up to your personal limit. Cash App advertises up to $500; first-time borrowers can unlock limits up to $400, and the $500 figure includes a Cash App Green increase.
  • Average first limit: Cash App reports an average first-time limit of $153 for active spenders as of October 1, 2025.
  • Cost: a flat fee. Cash App doesn't publish one fee for everyone on that page; the fee and terms are shown in the app before you accept.
  • Credit: Cash App says Borrow doesn't check your credit score and doesn't report to the credit bureaus.
  • Multiple loans: you can hold more than one Borrow loan, up to your total limit.

Step by step: how to borrow money from Cash App

  1. Update the app and open the Money tab.
  2. Tap Borrow. If you don't see it, Borrow isn't currently offered on your account (see the next section).
  3. Choose your amount. You can only change the amount before you finalize. To get more later, you submit a new request.
  4. Pick a repayment option and review the fee and due date on screen.
  5. Accept. Funds go to your Cash balance instantly.

Cash App Borrow eligibility and limits aren't guaranteed and can change. Cash App suggests getting a Cash App Card, using it often and keeping money in your Cash balance to help your chances.

Cash App Borrow eligibility: who gets offered Borrow

According to Cash App, most people qualify by direct depositing $300 or more in paychecks each month, or by linking an external account that receives $500 or more in monthly deposits. You also need to:

  • Be 18 or older and the legal owner of the account (not a sponsored account)
  • Complete identity verification
  • Keep your account in good standing with no past-due Borrow balance
  • Live outside Colorado, Iowa and Oregon, where Borrow isn't available

If you've just moved your paycheck to Cash App, it can take a few deposit cycles before Borrow appears. Cash App also notes that limit increases from card spending may be lower than increases from deposits.

How you repay a Cash App loan

Cash App gives three ways to repay: pay automatically as money comes into your Cash balance, make weekly installments, or pay the whole balance at once. Whatever is still owed on the final due date is automatically deducted from your Cash balance or linked payment method, so plan for it on the day your paycheck arrives.

You can't borrow again while a balance is past due. Repaying on time keeps Borrow available and can help your limit grow.

Borrow not showing up? Your options

Plenty of Cash App users never see Borrow, or see a limit smaller than the bill in front of them. That's normal. Borrow is offered account by account, and the average first limit is well under $200. If that's where you are, here's how to get the money handled:

  • Request a loan through our network. One short form reaches lenders offering $100 to $5,000, depending on your state. Many decide within minutes, and approved funds often arrive the next business day.
  • Use a cash advance app. Apps such as EarnIn, MoneyLion and Brigit advance small amounts from your next paycheck. Compare them in cash advance apps compared.
  • Need more time to repay? An installment loan spreads the cost over several monthly payments instead of a few weeks.

See if you qualify — it takes about 3 minutes. Free to use, no obligation to accept an offer. No hard credit inquiry on our end; lenders may check your credit.

Loans and cash advance apps that work with Cash App

Cash App can give you account and routing numbers for direct deposit, which is what most lenders need to send money and collect payments. Whether a particular lender or app will accept a Cash App account is that company's call:

  • Lenders: many online lenders accept any checking account that receives your income. If your paycheck lands in Cash App, list those account details on your request. Some lenders prefer a traditional bank account, which is one reason a form that reaches several lenders gives you more chances.
  • Cash advance apps: most apps link accounts through a bank-connection service, and support for Cash App varies. Dave's help center, for example, has listed Cash App among account types it doesn't support for linking. Before you sign up for any app, search for Cash App in its bank list inside the app.
  • Keep statements handy. If a lender can't connect to your account automatically, a downloaded Cash App statement showing your deposits can help verify income.

If Borrow covers your bill, it's a quick fit. If it doesn't, or isn't on your account, here's how our free service works:

  1. Fill out one short form — about 3 minutes. Share the amount you need, your contact details, your income and the checking account where you want the money.
  2. We match you with lenders in our network that serve your state. Many focus on your income and may use alternative credit data instead of a traditional hard pull.
  3. Review your offer. If a lender approves you, it shows the amount, fees, exact APR, payment dates and total to repay before you sign. You are never obligated to accept.
  4. Get your money. Once you e-sign, funds are often deposited by the next business day.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't I borrow money from Cash App?

Borrow is offered account by account. Common reasons it's missing: you don't have $300+ in monthly paycheck deposits to Cash App (or $500+ to a linked account), your identity isn't verified, you have a past-due Borrow balance, or you live in Colorado, Iowa or Oregon. If Borrow isn't available, you can request $100–$5,000 through our lender network.

How much can I borrow from Cash App?

Cash App advertises Borrow loans up to $500, with first-time limits up to $400 and a minimum of $20. Your actual limit is set by Cash App based on your account. It reported an average first-time limit of $153 for active spenders as of October 2025. Limits can grow with on-time repayment.

Does Cash App Borrow check your credit?

Cash App says Borrow doesn't check your credit score and doesn't report to the credit bureaus. That means on-time Borrow payments won't build your credit history either. Eligibility is based on your Cash App account activity, such as direct deposits and card use.

How do I unlock Cash App Borrow?

Cash App says most people qualify by direct depositing $300 or more in paychecks monthly or linking an external account with $500 or more in monthly deposits. Verify your identity, use your Cash App Card regularly and keep money in your Cash balance. Eligibility isn't guaranteed, and it can take a few deposit cycles to appear.

What loan apps work with Cash App?

It varies by app, because each one decides which accounts it can link. Dave's help center has listed Cash App among unsupported account types, so check each app's bank list before signing up. Many online lenders accept any checking account where your income is deposited, including Cash App account and routing numbers.

What can I use if I need more than Cash App will lend?

If your Borrow limit is too small, one 3-minute form through Zebra Finance reaches lenders offering $100 to $5,000, depending on your state. Many decide within minutes, approved funds often arrive the next business day, and you're never obligated to accept an offer.
